[RESOLVED] DVD Rec. to VHS

I am trying to copy a DVD disc to a VCR, but not having much luck.

When I first purchased the DVD-R, I did copy several to the VCR then as I copied back to a DVD, I was able to edit sections, as I viewed it on the TV. But now for some reason I forgot, or am unable, to view it on the TV as it is being copied back to a DVD. Sections of the original I like to delete before giving it out to family.

These disc are not commercial, nor are they copy-protected.

If anyone has run into this problem and has a suggestion I'd appreciate knowing how it was resolved.

Which machine are you using? Is it a standalone machine with the dvd and vcr built into one unit?
Can you view any dvd being played back?

If you're doing exactly the same thing as you used to but it no longer works then it doesn't sound like a procedure issue but a hardware one (it's broken and needs repair)

Try using a different DVD as an experiment to see if it may be just the one that doesn't copy.

Hi fink, I have a Toshiba D-R560 (stand alone). Yes, I've tried other DVDs and they are viewable.

My problem (or being forgetful) is when I attempt to view the VCR tape, on TV, as it is being copied to the DVD recorder. I recall when doing this previously that I made a switch of one set of AV cables, but the "ole memory" is failing me.

Got a couple of suggestions that I picked up on About.Com. Will try them later and post back, if successful. Thanks!

(But as you mentioned, it may be a hardware problem - the output jacks on the VCR).

Guess all I can do is copy from VCR to DVR rec. So, I'll just complete my "library" copying from VCR. Thanks again!

i copy vcr tapes to dvd for people all the time i use a small device called video grabber, no capture card to buy and no cables, download software and it works great, i think i paid around 45.00 dollars

Frebo... how do you plug the VCR into the computer?

yes the video grabber comes with a cable that plugs into vcr and other end plugs into usb
when i said no cables i meant no extra cables to buy
