If I understand correctly, both a CDRW and a DVDRW drive on the same pc , overnite, are both experiencing the same issue, the drives or Windows cannot see writeable media (blanks) .
< That is correct. >
Things to try :
I will assume you checked the "enable CD recording" box already. ;)
< Yes >
1. Uninstall or disable any ATIP hiders. These are programs that break CD/DVD copy protection, usually by vitual drive. Also, check for any DRM software you may have installed.
< To my knowledge I don't have a programs that break copy protection unless they were with the Roxio program I use. What would be an example of DRM software be? >
2. Scan for malware and rootkits.
< I scanned for those and the computer is clean. >
3. Try a different burning software.
< Don't have a different program to use. >
4. Clean the drive lenses .
< I clean them at least once a month. >
5. Change media. I have seen a stack of new blanks be bad in the middle, some even written to. Always use quality media.
< The CDs & DVDs are 2 different brands and neither are showing up. >
6. System Restore . Restore to a previous point where the drives were working.
< I tried 5 different restore points ranging from 1 day to 2 weeks ago, and got a message saying the computer was unable to restore to any of those points. >
7. Update Windows, and the pc's chipset drivers .
< What and where do I download those. >
8. Update the drives firmware.
< Tried that and was told there are no updates available. >
Maybe others here have some other ideas they can post.
