Most POST cards display a series of 2 digit codes while the PC is booting. You need a chart for the BIOS on the motherboard to know what the codes mean. When the boot fails, the last code indicates the problem area.
Thanks Jdc2000, that's good info. I didn't know that it was the last code that mattered.
The main problem is that the code chart doesn't seem like errors. Either that, or I don't know how to translate the chart codes into something that I understand.
Post the codes you are getting and the meanings from the chart.
I will do next time I use it.
OK, so here's one...
Computer won't post, nothing on screen, no beeps. The card shows four digits. 2724.
The mobo has 2 bulging capacitors which might be the problem. But I want to use this as a learning experience to understand how to use the POST card.
The booklet says the following under the numbers 27 and 24 for an AMI BIOS:
27 - Initialize before setting Video
24 - Interrupt vector initialization
FWIW, the video is onboard. So, any idea what this means?
What's the make and model of the MOBO and what version of BIOS is running?
Any flashes lately?
The problem was the motherboard, but I was more looking to learn how to use the POST card as opposed to finding the problem with the computer.
Thanks anyway.
