It seems to be a common problem with no straight answers from what i've searched for.
Unidentified network local access only. They can access the local network but not internet. She claims it worked fine at home but when she brought it to work that showed up. I tried a few things from other foriums but to no avail.
Do any of you have an answer to this.
The machine is Vista Business 64. Laptop. Nobilis brand name but that probably doesn't matter.
Can other Vista rigs access it? This is using wireless?
Try wired.
Some older routers Vista could/can not access wirelessly. Hit that quite a bit last year while traveling.
yes the other rigs can access everything just fine. the laptop is wired. she uses wireless at home and wired at work and now all of a sudden the wired only access local network.
Try a repair .

been there done that. uninstalled/reinstalled adapter. tried a different cable/port.
I want to go deeper and figure out why it is all of a sudden an unidentified network. what is an identified network for that matter. why local but not internet. Why vista only according to other forums. Why one machine but not all.
I hope someone can tells us. :(
I'm going out physically to look at the machine and see what I can do. I fired off an e-mail to the mfg of the laptop to see if it is a driver or something else. i'll post back my findings.

Hi, many laptops come with preinstalled "trial" versions of Anti Virus software. Many people use this untill it expires and then move on to something else the preinstalled AV has to be properly removed. I wonder if this was the case in your instance. If so go to the Anti Virus manufacturers site and download and run there uninstall tool.(even if you have uninstalled it yourself)
First in my defense I wasn't on-site to personally look at the issue otherwise it probably would have been resolved sooner. after trying some things over again I decided to unplug the cable modem/router combo device and wait a few minutes. I then plugged it back in and viola all was normal.
OK so that is resolved. The hang up i still have is why did it only let local access through and no internet. I would think that if it got an ip address then you have full access. I'm figuring it has something to do with ipv6 ipv4. but then why just one machine. It'll eat away at me forever but i'm thankful this is resolved for now.
You can mark it case closed.
If the DNS server settings were messed up, or the DNS servers were not accessible for some reason, but you still have a valid IP address, that would give you local network access but no internet access.
