IBM Think Pad Model T42
Hello, I was given a free IBM Think Pad Model T42 from work. It works pretty good however it only has 512MB of Ram. From the reading I have been doing to add another 512MB of Ram it appears that this memory goes under the Keyboard and not where the current Ram goes which is on the bottom of the laptop. How difficult is it to add the addtional Ram?
I have been using Adobe Photoshop CS for a class I am taking and the laptop freezes up periodically and I assume the addtional Ram will help. I can get the RAM from Newegg for $33 which I believe is a good price.
Any help I can get on installing this Ram would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I think you'd need to establish whether or not your T42 was supplied with a) 1 x 512MB SO-DIMM or b) 2 x 256MB SO-DIMMs. You could go to www.crucial.com and use their diagnostics tool to establish this.
If it is option a (1x512), then it strikes me as weird that they would make the customer go to all the trouble of adding new memory under the keyboard and not the expansion slot on the bottom, especially as they call it the 'expansion slot'.
If its option b (2x256MB) you will need to double your order (i.e. get 2 x 512MB).
None-the-less, here is the link with all the instructions - it is a fairly easy exercise:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-50233
Go the the "Memory - optional accessible from bottom of system" section and you will see 3 options: Removal movie - Installation movie - Removal and installation instructions

I ran the test at www.crucial.com and it was determined that is was option a.
I have emailed crucial.com to see where this RAM is installed, under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop. I will buy it from crucial.com since the price is very good.
Thanks for the links and I will see what happens.
