I have a friend's computer to do some work on and I need to know how to temporarily dis-able their dial up in order to use my cable connection to get online and get them up to speed with Avira, Comodo, etc.
The system shows the lan connection as working but when I click on IE to connect, it takes me to the dial-up box. I didn't readily see how to dis-able.
I need to get this back to him tomorrow morning so they can have it for the week-end.

Which IE? Most have a setting in Tools>Internet Options>Connections tab. Put a check mark in "never dial a connection" and apply/ok out.
Thank you, photolady...didn't remember about that. I still had to go thru the 'make a new connection' routine, but it worked. Now I can get their system up to snuff...!!

You're welcome. Though I have never had to use the "new connection" just to turn off the "never dial a connection". I'm glad you got it working.
This is a Dell...don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it worked.
