I have a SD Memory card for my new cell phone that I'm trying to read it on my computer so I could transfer files back and forth. When I insert the card in drive "E" it shows an icon that it is there but when I click to open it a message appears that "please insert a disk into drive "E" even though the disk is already inserted!
I've already upgraded my pc so it could support more than 1 Gig memory card. The card that I bought is 2 Gig.
Any help would be much appreciated. :confused:
Might want to get a adapter than can allow you to read the card.

Humm, then you did say phone, so check to see if they , makers of the phone, have a program that you need to install to access the card. Some do.
Is the card usable while plugged into the phone?

It might not be the card itself but your camera not able to read cards in that capacity. Check with your phone manufacturer for capacity of cards it accepts. My camera has this limit also.

I had the same problem with a mini card and my phone. I had the adapter to insert the mini in, in order to read from a usb card reader and it simply wouldn't read that card. Perhaps, the adapter you have is faulty, as mine was/is.
It's possible the SD card could be in a format that the computer can't read.Quote:

Did you already have access to the card or is it a new card [mini SD] and what device are you using on the PC to read it with?
Has the card been formatted, (using either the phone or computer)?

I'm not aware if the card is formatted or if it needs formatting but it didnt come with any information or manual so I assumed thats how its used, just put it in and the way it goes but it isnt so. :(
When you said you upgraded the computer to allow for that size gb card, what did you actually do to achieve this?
Some readers won't read higher gb SD cards.
My laptop is HP so I talked to a tech from HP department and they emailed me a link to download the thing my pc needed to support more than just 1 Gig.
SD card needs to be formatted, either by the camera, or by the computer if you want to use it on the computer only. When I insert a new card in my camera I have to use a camera's format function before I can store pictures on it. I then install a program that came with my camera on a CD, and my computer then reads the card. I suspect that the phone cards are also formatted for whatever program drives the phone - I doubt it's Windows.
I have SD cards up to 4GB that work well on my computer. I know the 2GB card works on my camera.
SD cards come pre-formatted.
While preferable to format in camera before use (just to make sure the files and folders are set up correctly) and indeed many photographers use the format function in camera just before each shoot ( as oppposed to the delete all in camera function ) i have never had a problem if i don't format or if i use the delete all function to clear a card.
Obviously if taking once in a lifetime wedding shots or babies first steps or world cruise shots then you may wish to make sure and do the in camera format, just to clear up any potental errors.
When you first insert a card into the camera (or perhaps when you first take a shot) the camera will set up the folders it needs, same with a card in a phone.
I share memory cards between my phone and my camera this way, the card has the folders the camera needs and also the folders the phone requires. The camera saves pics to its folders, the phone saves to its folders, both ignore the others folders and files.
I never use the software that comes with cameras (with the exception of raw software if the camera is so new its not supported in CS3 or similar), instead just using a card reader to import the files.
