Running WXP on all machines.
Friend brought over ailing PC, was/is very infected and would just go into continual re-boot.
I figured that since no boot, I could use the cable/bridge setup, his HD as second drive, on one of my PC's and then be able to scan and clean his drive.
Can that be done?
The thing is that my PC will boot up but will freeze up when I try to open anything while the second drive is hooked up.
Using StarTech cables.
Am I missing something here? Am I that stupid?

You have to take owership of the drive first.

Best to just slave it in and when booted up, open my computer, R-clcik the drive and select you av program and let it have at it.
Then have you spyware progams have a go at it also.

The problem is that I cannot even see the drive, let alone any folders/files on drive.

I assumed (_______________________________)-fill in appropriate statement there- that with PC being XP that PnP would/should just work when the second drive is hooked up.

I did try to run the HD from both PC & laptop, same result on both.
Could it just be the drive is dead/junk? I may take the HD out of my PC and try hooking up to the laptop with the bridge and see what happens.
Keep in mind that hooking up an infected drive to another system can infect your system;)

Yeah, it's a chance I take, but Kaspersky's always seems to slap down the nasties mighty quick. Have not been hit...yet........!
Anyone with any more ideas?
I use a "USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Adapter" frequently and have found that if the drive cannot be recognized via this this type of connection it usually means it won't be recognized via the normal direct connection to a PC either. (And more often than not this means there is a serious problem with the hard drive itself).
