I need to know if you can boot from a CDROM from a SATA DVD burner using the onboard SATA controller on a ASUS K8V SE Deluxe mobo? I am going to be updating someones computer but I remember on my mobo ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe I could not boot with my Plexter PX-755SA but just use it in Windows.

You should be able to boot from the cd. But you may have to enter the bios to set the boot order to boot from the cd rom. I am using sata optical drives and was able to boot from the cd rom.
rbc1100...Do you own the mobo in question? If so, would mind checking the bootability of the SATA drive?

No I am not using that board. But i do have three Asus boards here running and all will boot from a CD. I will have to look at the boards to tell you what models they are as my memory sucks. They are all Nforce4 boards, one sli. You will have to enter the bios to change the boot order. I am getting ready to shut down for the night and i am on my laptop. Tomorow after work I will fire up the desktop and have a look. I am still new to Asus for personal use. I like the bios configuations of the Epox boards much better.
hello, upon starting your computer hit the delete key to enter the bios settings. Look for boot option, you can then set your system to boot from floppy drive , hard drive or cdrom drive. Set it to boot from cdrom drive 1st and hd 2nd. You can look in cdrom drives to see if it shows your cd rom sata drives. I have 3 computers running sata optical drives and I am able to boot from the optical drives on all. Two are running Asus Nforce 4 mainboards and one is Epox Nforce 3. All are running 64 bit AMD cpu's.I have not had to install any special drivers to get them to see the sata drives. Install your OS disk and hit f-10 to save configuration. It should then boot from disk. Good luck!!!
Whereas I have one DVD player (IDE) and a SATA DVD burner.
Windows see's both but BIOS only see's the IDE.
Is there an option in the bios to enable or disable sata. i don't recall seeing that in my system but maybe.
