wireless woes
hey guys,
i think my router may have died :(
it works fine for wired connections but the wireless has recently stopped working very well. when i start up my laptop i search for wireless AP's and don't see my router. if i restart the router i can use it wirelessly for like 5 minutes then it stops.
i tried resetting to factory defaults and starting from scratch but get the same problem. just now i was sitting like 2 feet away from the router and recieved an 80% signal that lasted for about a minute.
Considering i see other AP's i assume its not a problem with my OS (winxp home) and is probably the router (Dlink). is this a common issue? is a new router the solution?
thanks for any input

Check for firmware upgrades for your router. If that or resetting it don't work I would assume you need a new Router

Sounds like it might be time for a new one if the firmware upgrade doesn't work out. I rececntly replaced my US Robotics ADSL+ router because it would drop both wired and wireless internet connections for no reason. No pattern to the dropping, just would go out constantly. After restarting the router, it would be OK for a time and then out again. New router solved the problem, hasn't went out since.

yer i have the latest firmware upgrade already. The router is less than one year old though :/ Dlink have discontinued the manufacturing of this router and no longer support it so maybe it's just a crap router?
thanks for the advice :)

Ive seen issues on a couple of occasions similar to your where the router just loses its wireless connection but continues to connect wired systems. On both occasions as you say resetting the router solved the problem temporarily but alas replacement was the order of the day.

Power Supply
I read several website state that the power supply has a lot line noise
causing the routers to shut down.My D-link does it all the time , but it on the self now. I use linksys now.
