A less then steller power supply will cause shut downs.
Does the computer restart, or just turn itself off? A bit more info would be useful.
Overheating would be another cause.
I use a thermaltake power station so there is an abundance of power.
I thought is was heat so i put a thermaletake max orb heatsink on it which made no difference.
It doesnt shut down it freezes and not when i am useing it.
I leave it on all the time and usually in the morning when i turn on the moniter it is frozen. Only once or twice has it ever froze while i used it.
I also took out the dvico hd card so therei s nothing left in there.
I ran a memory check and it came up ok.
Hi Anne, have a play with your power settings I have a custom setting see if yours is on performance or balanced swap to see if it makes a difference, there have been some issues with Vista and these settings.
Also, how is your computer security?
I have had it on both balanced and performance makes no difference.
I dont think security has anything to do with freezing.
There is no spyware a and i did a virus scan.
This has been going on for quite a while now, time for a format i think.
If hibernation is enabled, disable it. Also, don't go into sleep mode. Set your monitor up in Control Panel | Power Options | Change Settings to go off in 30 minutes, that's all you need to do. Letting the computer go to sleep or hibernate in Vista seems to be as dicey as it was with 98 for some reason.
I dont have hibernation enabled or sleep or anythng else enabled.
