If Outlook Express is your default email program....
Click Start > Run > type in the following. Including quotation marks. Or copy/paste.
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg
Click OK. When the registration completes, reboot.
Vista does not have outlook express it has windows mail.
I dont use that either , i use windows live mail.
anne--I understand you are not being directed to any email client when you click an email link on a website. Is that correct?
Windows Live Mail is the successor to Windows Mail, which was the successor to Outlook Express.
You download WLM here http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
Have you installed that?
I do not use it nor Vista. If you search around the various options in WLM I think you will find a window that will let you set it as the default email client. In Outlook Express that was Tools|Options|General tab. (In WinXP you also could set the default email client from IE Tools|Internet Options|Programs tab, but I know that IE and WLM are no longer bundled.)
You could also try WLM Help.
Sorry I cannot help based on experience with WLM.
anne, it shows here how to make windows live mail your default
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=ho...roups&ct=title
frebo--Which of those Google references has the procedure for making WLM the default email client?
PA Bear says just installing WLM will automatically make it the default, but that apparently is not the case, unless anne did not install it.
thats the one i was speaking of== to make sure she had installed it i guess i should have been more clear
I have used windows live mail for a long time now since beta days so there is no doubt about it being default.
THis is a recent problam one of that starts for no reason.
Anne,
Did you check in Internet Options if Windows Live Mail is selected as email client?
(Start > Settings > Internetoptions | tab Programs)
You probably already did, just to make sure...
XOR--I am looking forward to anne's answer to your question. IE and WLM are no longer bundled as IE and OE were. So that is why I hedged my suggestion in Post #4.
Sorry Jim, I overlooked your post.
In IE7 (using XP) I have the option to set OE, WLM or Opera as email client.
Vista should have the same options in IE7.
