The "official" incompatibilty programs with Kaspersky Internet Security

I had some damage when we were beseiged with one brutal ice storm right before Xmas.

Without elaborating that incident that hit me: probably a severe short circuit on the really low power factor transformers hanging on poles near my home office, it took out a modem, totally sca-rued up my router settings and discombobulated several programs.
I had to file a case with Kaspersky on KIS version 7.0.0.125dd.

When I sent them their sysinfo.txt file for analysis: I got this reply:

I can't state that I honestly agree with this assesment, because I have 2) other machines running with no problems whatsoever with all these.

On the other hand, I have come to trust Kaspersky as my Primary Line of Defense even though (my opinion only) it is very difficult to set-up correctly.

Thought I'd throw it out for discussion here, since most of my PC mentors reside here and I always like redundancy: in opinions and especially protective programs.

Opinions/facts/what you use..... if anyone is up to the challenge, please?

I'd go over to the KIS/KAV forum and ask there. IMO, if those programs are truly incompatible, I would NOT be pleased with Kaspersky. :mad: And I would want specific reasons why they aren't.

I surf the Kapersky forums because, like I said: for me anyway, getting this set up correctly if you're no tech genius (which I am not) is at best difficult.

Example on the fubared 'puter I mentioned: I can get updates no problem with the Kaspersky Firewall on and Windows off, but can't connect to the net.
Now how the the he** could that happen? :rolleyes:

My experience tells me that starting an argument with manufacturers of software puts yours truly in a very difficult position because they can explain their way technologically so far over my head. :(

Furthermore, poor Don Pelotas (moderator) over there is so far overloaded (it seems) he's immediately going to get testy when/if I were to challenge these types of issues.

That's why I put it on the table here.
There are people here I have Faith in.
Too many to name from visiting here regularly for 8 years.

Not trying to start any angry disputes, nor useless chicken before the egg debates: just gathering facts from the experience of others that post here regularly. ;)

The list is rather extensive and the issue may be due to the way the registry entries of the incompatable programs might clash or interfere with the operation of the software.An alternative offered on the KIS forum is superantispyware

Man, I may have started a sloppy mess with this.

When you visit that incompatiblity link at Kaspersky which appears to have been dated 11/23/07, Windows Defender is not on there.

But now: it's not compatible. (according to the quote in my 1st post)

OK with me if it isn't.
Defender never finds anything that my other programs do.
Why cnet rates it so highly is beyond my comprehension.

The firewall and true AV product list makes perfect sense that they will butt heads. By definition, they would absolutely clash. BUT, IMO, unless we are talking about Spybot's Tea Timer, I see no other reason why Spybot would cause issues for KIS/KAV. And FWIW, Windows Defender and SpywareBlaster are no where to be found there...

Steve: You're right about Don. He is kinda beleaguered. But I have found him to be a good resource too.

My overall feeling on this issue is that layered security is the best overall answer for today's malware. I know of no anti-malware product that is the best at all things (and IMO, this includes KIS.) That said, clearly, KIS is an excellent program. I guess it comes down to what you comfortable with. Me, I would NOT be happy running just KIS. But that's just me... :D

If you provide tech support for product X and you can't resolve a user's problem with the documentation and test facilities available to you, there is strong motivation (and some justification) to blame "incompatible" software (ie, software you know little about and have no means to test).

In this case, if the problem is related to a power glitch, incompatible software seems an unlikely problem source.

However, any time I have a similar problem I remove one of the programs at a time and see if that resolves the problem.
