AVG Free Firewall Driver

Just a few minutes ago, I ran the updater for AVG Free. There was a program update available today and not just a regular definitions/database update. I noticed that one of the updates was a firewall driver. I haven't noticed this before and was just wondering why it was included. AFAIK, the free version of AVG doesn't include the firewall. Though, if it does, how do I disable it(I already run a software firewall and don't want conflicts)? I didn't see any options in the program or on anything on the grisoft.com website to indicate that there is now a firewall component to the free version.

I know nothing about your question cause I use COMODO FW.
I am having trouble with the free AVG email scanner--it won't stay in the "protected mode". Updates have been applied, scan of system has been done and nothing significant noted. Anyone else having any problem? The current version I am running is 7.5.516.
EDIT: I forgot to say that I close the AVG Control Center in my Sys Tray and then re-start it and everything is OK for a few minutes and then the Grey in back in the Control Center color scheme.

I don't run the AVG Firewall, either. That's why I made the thread it seems odd to include a driver for a component that's not included(I'm still wondering about that). If you use AVG Free, though, you should've seen the firewall driver in the updates list.

Anyhoo, I've updated AVG on both of my computers and each component has a checkmark next to it in the status window in the Control Center. What does it say in the box at the bottom of the Control Center window when you click on the scanner? It should tell you what parts of it are(n't) active.

Thanks for your reply. I have to say that I don't always watch, in fact seldom watch, what items are being installed. Guess I tend to trust AVG to keep me straight. Strange though, the Control Center has settled down since I have run every "test" I have installed on this particular machine. After running all of the tests, I turned the PC off for perhaps an hour and have just turned it back on. Seems my trust in AVG has paid off; along with my regular use of the 3 malware apps. I have. I can say that because I just discovered that the AV part of this App. has not been updated for a year---December 06. After updating and scanning, there were only 19 insignificant items found.
For sure, I will be running that bugger more often in the days to come. May have to spend some cash and upgrade so I will have that feature done automatically :D

Free version updates automatically, daily, and full scan can be scheduled to be run daily, as well.

As for "mail scanner", I used to have problem with that module in the past, so I reinstalled AVG without installing "mail scanner".
I believe, if you have just security common sense, you don't need "mail scanner".

Only a guess but it may be easier and faster for AVG to simply make one large global update package for all the different versions and just have the actual program that's running choose to ignore or not use what isn't needed from the download.
