May not be possible. Did a thunderbird search and could find nothing on this subject.
Using XP and Thunderbird as my e-mailer.
I hit the start button to turn on my computer, while having a cup of coffee. When I get back to the computer, I then have to click on the Thunderbird inbox button to download my e-mail, and wait while the e-mail is downloaded.
Is it possible to have Thunderbird automatically download my email whenever I start the computer?
Two way to do this.
1. Set T-Bird to automatically download your messages when you start it. See the attached photo.
2. Download and set up the Folderpane Tools Add-on. With this extension you can set more than just the startup folder https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/258

The reason I use Thunderbird is so I can control what email gets downloaded.
I only want it going to my email box after I have selected it using mail washer to do this. Which mail has already been scanned by my ISP before it reaches Mail Washer, (which lets me know what I have on server every 10 minutes)
Then I select what I want to download to my email client

I did some reading on Mail Washer, after looking at your message, and will give it a try. I am not sure, on first reading, what more it will do that Thunderbird's message filters do not already do. I can blacklist now, using TB. When messages come in, I can now see who they are from, the subject, and a portion of the message, to determine if I want to open that message right away, or come back to it, later. But, I thank you for making me aware of MW.

Took a look at my Server Settings. I am now set up for automatic download on startup. But, I still have to open Thunderbird and then wait for the downloads to my various In Boxes. I am trying to avoid having to open TB. I want TB to open on startup and mail, not otherwise blocked or filtered, to automatically download to my various In boxes.

Well, all you need to do is run T-Bird from your user Startup folder. Copy the T-Bird shortcut from your desktop to C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder. Then when you boot up, T-Bird will auto start.
My PC that I use for mail is on 24/7 which is different than yours where you turn it off and on. Mail washer does open Thunderbird but only when I click process.
You may find some advantage to Mail Washer and it is free to try. As it would give you a quick glance at mail and you could be doing something else while mail was actually downloading .

Followed your instructions and now when I boot up, Thunberbird opens and downloads email. That is what I wanted. Thanks much.
Now, I have to make Mail Washer work.
When I downloaded Mail Washer, it automatically set as friends those names in my address book. I should have purged bad names before downloading MW. Tried to purge when MW indicated that it was using all of the names, but could not find a way to delete. I am going to remove Mail Washer, clean out my Thunderbird list of names, and start all over again.
If I cannot make it work, I will post back and yell at eddds40.
