XPHome password
Hello, I have a question. My girlfreinds computer will not accept her password to log on to her desk top. Can some one tell me how to crack it so she can reset it and use her computer. She is running XP Home and can not get past the Windows log in screen at boot up. I don't know if someone messed with it and changed it or what. Thanks!!!

If the administrator password has not been changed there is a way to log on in safe mode.
Press F8 as it boots selecting safe mode. When the password prompt comes up press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice.A new log in screen will show asking for a name and password.Enter Administrator for the name and leave the password blank. This should enable you to enter safe mode from which you can access the user accounts via the control panel and change the password for the account in question.
Any other offerings at by passing the log in i.e. using third party software would be beyond the scope of our forum rules and strictly frowned upon if suggested.
By the way did she check the caps lock key way not pressed by mistake?

If I am not mistaken, one can log in W/O p-w by simply closing the log-in window.
Then, the computer is available for general service for anyone, but w/o the specifics of any user w an account - his files and personal info.
And this is how it should be, really. This is not an unlawful bypass of the log-in feature. The authenticated log-in is intended for the protection of the users files and folders, their info and personal data.
At least this is how things worked on my comp when I was part of a group. Everyone had a p-w but everyone could log in by just closing the window and go on accessing the comp.

Sounds like part of a group policy. Not normal to be able to do that.

I tried the f8 thing, it just goes to a boot menu giving me only the option for booting from different devices. The board is a Nforce 4 Asus if this helps. Thanks!!!!

You should see something like this. You have to use the Arrow keys to navigate.

Shut the PC down, wait 30 seconds, start the pc and tap F8 while booting and you should get that screen.
Some how holding the F8 caused to default into the boot menu. I have seen that happen and tapping the F8 key lets me see the menu I linked in.
Hope it works for you too.
