[Pro] TaskManager issue
Yeah, I know I'm the admin here, but hey, I get computer problems too. This is one I've never seen before. If I right-click on my taskbar and select TaskManager, it takes an inordinately long amount of time to open, and depending on how many other programs I have open, it functions as though my machine were dead out of memory. Usually, when this happens I just have to shut it down because it's unusable.
However, if I open it via control alt delete, it opens in a nanosecond and functions absolutely normally. What is being bypassed using this latter method of opening TaskManager?

I've seen the slow opening many a time...When I've seen it its cause I need to use it to stop some other app that I know is having big time issues.
-
Well that I would understand if it were happening no matter how I opened it. But under the exact same circumstances, it's only slow if I open it from the taskbar, and is lightning fast if I open it via control alt delete. I don't see why it should matter how the executable is called. That is, unless run DLLs are involved in one method and not the other

JPnyc :)
This is a new one. It does sound like a Taskbar problem.
Try the "Taskbar Repair Tool" or maybe just the "Restore to XP Default" from the list under Taskbar

Thank you Elaine, I will try that. I figure that run 32 DLL might either be corrupt or is being detained by my antivirus/firewall. Since that DLL is responsible for opening quite a number of other programs, I figure it's a fair shot that it's involved in the taskbar opening of task manager
Completely off-topic, I just found out yesterday to my delight that my favorite Scottish beer IS available in New York City, contrary to what I had thought and been told. Ever heard of Bitter & Twisted? It's Brewed by the Harviestoun brewery.

I have 35 process running myself and yes, when things get jammed up, I have seen even Ctrl+Alt+Del not work.
At that time, hit the reset button and hope things work out. But dealing with client's home videos, I have found a reboot after each phase stops that mess for me. Even with XP!
