[RESOLVED] [XP] Re:Lines
Hello All, having whitish lines appear flashing across my monitor. Still see the desktop, or whatever i am looking at. Kind of jumping, across screen. The screen also jumps alittle. It will subside, and come back, then subside again.
The computer is on a while before it happens, a couple of hours.
I turn it on after a little while, and its o.k for another couple of hours.
Has been suggested it could be the Graphics card, though, seems like another problem could be causing it, a Fan, or something.
I was thinking a heat problem. Though it's in a cool aired place.
I have cleaned it outa few times, dust wise since i have had it, over 2 years.
What could it be? Any ideas welcome.
I have it covered by Domestic & General insurance, though not sure if it will cover this. Though, the hardware should be covered.
Thanks, GEP

What type of monitor-> CRT or LCD?
Did you recently place any electrical equiptment near it?
-
Electric motor to close to the monitor will do that.

If it takes a few hours for the problem to appear, heat may well be the problem. Does the computer have a graphics card on on-the-motherboard graphics? Check the fans inside the case and power supply to make sure that all are still running. You could also take off the side panel and point an external fan at the case to see if that clears up the problem.

Sounds like either interference from something (Speaker - magnet, electromagnet/mobile phone etc) could also be down to graphics card, could you test the monitor on another system?

Re:Lines
Hello All, i know of the problem Re:mobile phones etc.
Have got speakers very close to the monitor, will move them and see if that helps. Have only a Wireless keyboard and mouse closer, and the NTL broadband Modem.
I have a LCD monitor, a newish one. I am sure it happened on my first one.
With having moved and not had my computer on for four months, cannot remember fully. Fairly sure its not the monitor.
I am sure the Graphics Card is separate. ATI Radeon 9550.
Thanks for all your replies, will give the speakers a week or so to see if they are the problem. Don't think the modems a problem, or could it be?
Thanks, GEP

No, i doubt it, my NTL modem is sat between my 2 monitors and never had a problem with it with the monitors.

Make sure the monitor cable isn't routed next to anything with a strong magnetic field as well. If you have a spare monitor cable, try changing it.

Re:Lines
Hello Supersparks, Liam, Train, Steve, jdc2000 and all, i have found out that it's my monitor. Thought that it could not be that, so when the lines appear, just give it one or two taps and it stops.
So will either wait for it to give up the ghost, or buy nice new one when i can afford it, or maybe my computer monitor is covered in my domestic and general insurance, will look into this.
Thanks for your help, GEP
