Someone with a 22" wide screen monitor help me out here. What is actual height of viewable area of screen? My 20.1" Samsung just died and I am thinking about buying a wide screen. But I think I may give up some height.
Thanks.

Approximate,
22" Widescreen ~ 17.26" x 13.64" 473.8 x 296.1mm
Hmmm, those dimensions would be for a screen with an approx. 5:4 aspect ratio.
It's my understanding that a widescreen monitor has either a 16:9 or 16:10 AR, which would render approx. screen dimensions of 19.2" x 10.8" or 18.7" x 11.7", respectively, for a 22" WS monitor.
Why not select a monitor or two you might be interested in and go the Manufacturers site and look at the specifications.
Ski, both sets of your dimensions pass Pythagoras Theoram so I guess you know what you are talking about.
I am looking at the Samsung 226BB whicjh is 16.10 format. So according to your calculations the seceen should be 11.7" high. This is appxromately .25" less than my Samsung 204T.
Going to the manufacturer's website to obtain this information is not that easy. All most of them will reveal is the diagonal measurement of 22".
Good choice. Samsung makes top notch LCD monitors.
FWIW--I just picked a ViewSonic product page at random. Look under Specifications (about 2/3's of the way down the page) for Height and Width
"Display Area 18.7" horizontal x 11.7" vertical; 22" diagonal "
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic44396.html
I wonder if the confusion is that the 22inches is a measure of diagonal length.
Welshjim,
No confusion here. :D
It appears that you may have posted the wrong link.
You probably had trouble finding it as that model number is incorrect. There is a 226BW, but no 226BB, the dimensions of the former are:
Quote:
Set with stand(WxHxD) 476.0x396.4x219.3 mm
More important than the dimensional size is the maximum pixel arrangement.
For example a screen might be 1440 x 1050 pixels but the same size screen in a different aspect ratio might be 1440 x 900 pixels.
Most manufacturers provide dimensions in pixels as well as inches.
I have a 22" refurbished/used Viewsonic VP2290b LCD display with a 3840 x 2400 pixel count on my workstation.
The LCD dimensions are horizontal: 18.8", vertical: 11.7" and diagonal: 22.2".
Most 22" LCD's cannot display half that much information.
Sorry about the typo in the model number. I meant to type 226BW.
Ski I hope you are right about making a good choice. My 24 month old Samsung 204T just bought the farm. I cannot turn it on. I was not sure if I wanted to buy another Samsung. The company is replacing it with a refurbished unit which will probably be a piece of crap. Would you believe they put a $400 hold on my credit card until the swap is made. That's more than a new one costs! Anyway, the model 226BW will replace the dead 204T. I'll use the refurbished junk with an old spare computer.
Thanks everyone for your help.
True, standard 22" widescreens being 1680 x 1050, just shy of full HD vertically speaking. :)

Thanks, ski.
actually I like manufacturers refurbished stuff as they tend to be better than new as they are inspected better and any part that isn't up to specs is replaced.
Everything I ever owned that was refurbished was junk.
