Doesn't bother me in the least. No worse than Pat Brown calling Ronald Reagan a thespian in 1966, and it's being done BY liberals TO conservatives as well - look how Mitt Romney's being trashed by Newsweek and Time, and the Washington Post among numerous newspapers. For all the media hype about how polite people were to Jack Kennedy in 1960, the truth of the matter was that Kennedy was constantly on the defensive about his Catholicism - mostly from Stuart Symington and Lyndon Johnson, his fellow Democrats seeking the nomination that year. :rolleyes:
Look at it this way - when you notice a conservative hitting below the belt, it's newsworthy because it rarely happens. When a liberal does it, you expect it so it's not newsworthy when it (frequently) happens. Some of the dirtiest campaigning I ever saw was in King County, Washington, where conservatives don't even exist anymore. There, liberals eat their own.:D
Read the attachment and thought it was funny. It's typical mud slinging by politicians.
It would bother me for sure, but then it bothers me that anyone who might hold office in this country could be fanatically religious, regardless of the religion.

Hey GG, we might lockup lgbpop but unfortunately we can't shut him up.
Obama's family background bothers me. I will not judge him for his past but it does trouble me. I have never given any thought of voting him into the President's seat. Our sitting Pres. is doing a good job; I just can't figure out what he is doing that is good for our people, our country or the world. but then I don't think he knows either. :D

I agree. The Second Amendment says it just right - the government will establish no religion, and the government will not prohibit the free exercise thereof. While the government should be non-sectarian, though, I hope those who make up the government have some sense of the Creator, just to keep them less prone to mischief.Quote:

But I find it's far more common for religion to be used as nothing more than an emotional Band-Aid to calm the insecurity of the practitioner, or used as an ego maintenance trump card. After all, nothing trumps God.
So I'm not necessarily more convinced that a politician will not be malfeasant just because he has some religious leaning.
