[RESOLVED] Norton Interferrence

I had a problem with Norton interferring with System Restore. I was told by someone here to uncheck Auto Protect and then System Restore would work.

Well, System Restore worked after I unchecked Auto-Protect in Norton. But now it won't let me turn Auto-Protect back on unless I run all kinds of checks or else uninstall and re-install Norton. This seems like a lot of hassle to go through just to use System Restore.

I went to their help page and they told me they had this fix program that I could use since I got this message "Auto protect has encountered a problem". I tried to use that fix program and it gave me a whole list of why it couldn't work.

Is there anyway to get Auto-Protect to work again without having to go through a bunch of hassle?

Of course it is up to you,but you don`t really need to turn Auto-Protect back on.

As Jim said, the "protection" offered is only to protect NAV, not your PC's overall functions.
It is just a security feature that prevents outside programs from making changes to the Norton product

OK. But everytime I turn my computer back on Norton has a fit telling me that Auto-Protect has encounted an error and that I need to run all these diagnostics. Do I have to put up with that all the time? I mean, sure, it's just a matter of deleting the message but that could get real aggravating after awhile.

I figured out if I use system restore then it turns Norton back on.

Neither dunedin nor I suggested you turn Norton off. Neither did we suggest you turn AutoProtect off.
The advice was to uncheck the box labelled "Turn protection on for my Symantec product." in the Miscellaneous window.
Does using System Restore put the check back into that box?
Turning Norton off and/or turning Autoprotect off are entirely separate matters from checking or unchecking that box in the Miscellaneous window.

AutoProtect settings are in the AutoProtect window. Do not uncheck the box in that window that says "Turn AutoProtect on (recommended)"
If you still are having problems what do the error messages you getting say?
Does System Restore work now?
It is easy to get confused by Symantec's language.
