Netgear DG834 failure?
Friend's PC is connected via a DG834. The DG834 appears to be connected to the net (Power and Internet lights are green). Problem is between the PC and the DG834. The PC reports a media disconnect (ipconfig) and the DG834 doesn't have any of it's 4 LAN ports lit up, regardless of where she connects the CAT5 cable. She checked that CAT5 cable was properly plugged in.
I thought it might be the cable itself, so will send her one, but in the meantime asked her to switch off for 30mins and switch back on. When it came back, the LAN 3 port started flashing on/off and still flashed away when she disconnected from LAN port 3 and tried the other ports.
My feeling now is that the DG834 is a goner, but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced similar or have any suggestions?
Thanks.

PS - wont get to see this router until Friday.

Try the reset button.
Should be one and hold it for about 15 seconds.
The manual should give the specifics on how to do that.

Thanks Train, I'll give it a whirl tomorrow. There is a reset button (have used it many a time before!), but I will need to get her to export her settings then import them back in afterwards - will be doing this blind so it should be fun!
There should be a website dedicated to routers/modems where you can load up the interface for any given model and interact with it - would be a great asset for techies like ourselves!
Will let you know it goes.

Humm, you might want to forgo those settings and start from scratch.
Wondering something there is , shall we say flaky
