My credit card company is very annoying, bought a LCD TV on line Sunday and they decided to stop the payment as a security measure. I always pay in full every month and I have an impeccable credit rating so this is making me very angry. Anyone else having the same problems?
I don't have a credit card....i'm just wondering which TV you were trying to get? :)

After the events in London and Glasgow last week, they may be monitoring transactions using some algorithm to detect suspicious activity, and being needlessly cautious doing so.
I've had that happen several times. Many times they've saved me from having to file fraud reports. To this day I do not use a credit card in restaurants or when the card leaves my sight. Waiters especially are paid to run your card through a "reader" that records the information. It is collected and paid for monthly by criminals.
Last February I was issued a routine replacement credit card and withing a couple of hours I received a call from the fraud department because there was a charge attempted from Sweden. I used the card once in Italy the previous October. The fraud people are there to help you avoid lots of turmoil and grief. Be thankful they are on their toes protecting against fraud.
Whenever I make a large purchase using a credit card, I notify the credit card company prior to the purchase. I do the same when I travel to let them know from which countries to allow charges even if I don't plan on using a credit card and which to reject - even the USA. I use my credit card for everything because of the generous cash rebate. I pay in full every month.
I don't have credit cards anymore ... so I don't have any problems :D

Barclaycard introduced a system where when paying for online goods you have to insert a known portion of a password for the payment to succeed.
I've had it happen two or three times when buying stuff online. I even phoned them up and said that I was going to be making a large purchase, and still the anti-fraud kicked in :rolleyes: Nevertheless, I take the same view as Steve, I'd rather have them watching my back. It only takes a quick free phonecall to sort things out.
I know it's a nuisance Philgo, but they are trying to help you in a way. I recently had fraudulent activity on my credit card. I also pay mine off monthly, and I knew I had a zero balance. Got a call from the credit card co. with a recording stating that there was possible fraudulent activity. I'm so security conscious that I wouldn't enter any info. on their recording, but I made a call to them directly. There were charges totaling about $200.00 to two companies that I hadn't made nor heard of. :mad: Needless to say, they canceled that card and sent me a new one. I've had to put a fraud alert on my credit file, checked all my other accounts, etc. etc. and all is well. I even put a password on one of my bank accounts - I have a check card there, but not a credit card. It's been a nuisance, but at least I've not had to pay anything at all. It's just been a headache contacting this company, that company, etc. The good thing is that my credit record shouldn't be affected. I haven't received my credit report yet, but I'm hoping there aren't any surprises there.
Don't know if it helps anyone or not, but when I purchase something online, I use the on-screen keyboard to enter credit card numbers, name, address, etc.
I thought a lot about a pre-paid credit card, but if someone gets that, you can't dispute those charges, and then you're out the money.
I'd definitely find out if what they did will affect your credit rating.
I heard about that trick too, a while back. Unfortunately it doesn't do any good, because all the OSK does is emulate the keystrokes of the keyboard in such a way that any keylogger can capture the info in exactly the same way :(Quote:

At any rate, I guess it's just smart to check your credit report a minimum of once a year.
I know everyone thinks I'm going over the top here but this is what happened.
On Sunday I bought the TV on line.
On Monday on my way home from work my card is refused in a petrol station, a phone call in the petrol station may have sorted out that bit, but I had a queue behind me, luckily i had enough cash. I found that embarrassing as I'm sure the person serving me thought I was over my limit.
Got home at 4.30, my wife tells me that the company I bought the TV from had been on the phone and my card had been refused. I had 30 mins to sort it out or my delivery for Friday would be cancelled. I phoned my card company on their 10p a minute line and was on the phone for 15 mins before it was sorted. i then phoned the people I bought the TV from and the payment went through 30 mins later. I then had to phone the delivery company on their premium phone number to ensure my delivery for friday was OK.
Now if I was home a little later I wouldn't be getting my TV tomorrow and my wife would have missed a days work for nothing.
At the end of the day the card company are protecting themselves, because if the card was used fraudulently then it's not my problem, as long as I didn't do anything stupid.
Guess it looks like you'l be a cash only guy from now on...No more online shopping......
