the newest 'comodo' version of boclean will not install.
well actually, it 'installs', then does not do anything
ie. open,or place icon in sys tray....no menu will appear...
i've never had trouble with it before.
??? is there any other equivalent program ???
I'm running the new BOClean 4.23 on both of my XP SP2 laptops and they are running fine. No troubles at all.
I have read of some users having issues with the tray icon not showing up in 4.23 but it has not occurred to me. There is some speculation that the mods made to BOClean to make it Vista compatible or conflicts with some other (as yet unidentified) software may be behind the tray icon flakiness.
Equivalent Programs? None IMO. If you still have 4.22, you could uninstall 4.23 and go back to it until the tray icon thing is settled...

if was just the tray icon missing i could live with that.
but i can't get the menu or config screen.
and don't have any clue if it's all there.
tho it does show up on add/remove.and the start menu/program list.
am i correct to assume it isn't 'there' ?

If BOClean is running, you should have 2 processes listed in Taskmanager, BOC423.exe and BOCore.exe. The tray icon and menu are part of BOC423.exe's job.
If you dont have 4.22, I'd try again to see if I could get 4.23 going.
To uninstall, you need to go into Taskmanager and do an End Process on BOC423.exe (if it's running.) Then you can go ahead and uninstall BOClean. After the uninstall completes, you should reboot. Once your booted, I'd verify that all of the previous installation is gone before trying again. Look for C:\Program Files\NSClean (this is the old folder from the 4.22 version) and once you're sure it's empty, delete it. Do the same for C:\Program Files\Comodo\CBOClean (where 4.23 is installed.) Also make sure that the folders C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOC423 and/or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOC422 no longer exist.
Then, once everything's cleared up, I'd try reinstalling. Some users apparently need to temporarily disable their real-time antivirus scanner to get the install to go correctly. I didn't in my case, so it's up to you whether to do this or not. As with 4.22, BOClean will need outbound web access to update during the latter stages of being installed. Once it's updated, you should reboot and hopefully, it will be running normally. :)

anti adware,, dc'd spybot,zone alarm.... etc.
nothing worked,
until for another reason not related to this problem
i took off the router.
and then boclean appeared and worked seemingly fine.
now tonight i installed the router, and
boclean is gone again.
the router is linksys broadband[dsl] firewall BEFSX41
so what in the router settings is blocking ?
i took a look and don't have a clue.... :confused:
Very odd!
I can understand it being possible that BOClean is being blocked from updating but not prevented from loading up at all.
When your router was initially installed, did you install some kind of software with it?
I have to admit, I'm confused on this...
oh yes it came with a cd. i didn't use it on this 'puter.
i forgot about that. and now i can't find it.
but i can borrow one if i need it.
in task manager processes tab it looks like
boclean is running in the background.
the boc423.exe entry # changes from 00 up to 03-04

when the router was gone, boclean ran as normal as i could tell

when the router was put back. boclean...was gone from systray.
but....now.. after approx. 3 shutdowns, plus restarts after
windows updates....
boclean is now in the systray. and is functioning normal.:cool:

on a cold start/boot up it's missing from the sys tray.but
on a restart it magically appears.:eek:
Version 4.24 is supposed to be out this week or next. Hopefully it will cure your issues.
Something serious going on with BOClean as I type this... The 2007-05-21 12:10:34 (UTC) update has a bad false positive. A Windows system file, called AEC.SYS is singled out as a trojan. So far, the FP has gone on now for nearly 12 hours. Something that would have never gone on for so long when Kevin and Nancy ran the business. Very disturbing...

BOClean Definition Update 2007-05-22 02:18:47 fixes the false positive.
