Geforce FX series and Vista
Been going back and forth with Nvidia on the FX models. On a March 2nd email they stated this.
Product Support Limitations
These are features that either rely on our partners for solutions, or are support decisions for older product lines.
GeForce Go GPUs in notebooks are currently not supported in drivers from NVIDIA.com.
At this time, the drivers available on NVIDIA.com do not support notebook GPUs. Many NVIDIA notebook GPUs have Windows Vista drivers already built into the operating system and install the first time you run Windows Vista. Notebook GPU driver support is provided directly from the manufacturer, so please consult your manufacturer for an updated NVIDIA notebook GPU driver.
GeForce FX GPUs are not supported in 97.46, 100.54, 100.59, 100.64.
The GeForce FX GPUs are supported from the 96.85 drivers. NVIDIA is planning an update for these users later in 2007.
GeForce 4, GeForce3, and GeForce2 GPUs are not supported under Windows Vista.
For a full list of all GPUs supported by NVIDIA under Windows Vista, please visit this website. http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html
Sent an email the other day asking a general release date for the drivers for the FX series and this is what I got.
Thank you for contacting us here at NVIDIA Customer Care.
We understand from your email that you would like to know if NVIDIA would provide Windows Vista graphics drivers for the GeForce FX series of graphics card. In this regard, we would like inform that as of date the only driver available is the 96.85, downloadable from the web page at http://search.nvidia.com/?q=96.85. (Please use the appropriate link to download the driver based on the version of the Windows Vista you are using).
We are sorry to inform your good self that as of date, NIVIDA does not have plans to release a new graphics driver for the GeForce FX series of graphics card. However, we would request you to register with NVIDIA by visiting our web page at http://lyris01.nvidia.com/NvRegister...inRegister.asp to receive notifications on driver updates.
If you have any further questions or concerns as well, please feel free to email us.
Regards,
NVIDIA Customer Care.
Well which one is it? Are they, or aren't they going to? I leaning to ther latter of the 2 mainly because the FX has been taken out of the Unified drivers for Vista for a while. And that struck me as odd from the get go. But they maintained a driver would be coming. And the FX is listed as a Vista supported card.
It dosen't bother me if they dropped supported. One its an older card. Fully capable of running Aero smoothly but still an old card. What bothers me that they can't clearly state to their users what there plan is.
