Windows Explorer maximized

Somehow I've managed to change a setting, probably in the registry, that's causing explorer to open fully maximized. No matter how many times I've reduced it, closed it with shift depressed after sizing, changed views from classic to web and back, on the next open it's maxed out. It's driving me nuts.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. 98 SE, 128 ram, 2 machine network; no wallpaper, no screen savers, no themes. Running Norton AV & ZA in the background. Nothing fancy. Like it plain.

Try holding down Ctrl instead of Shift when you resize the window.

You might also check the Properties of the shortcut you're starting Explorer with - right click on the shortcut, choose Properties. Change the Run option to whatever you like - Normal Window is probably what you're looking for.

Well, I think the Ctrl suggestion worked. I can't be sure because I was trying so many things but after using the Ctrl method for closing the explorer windows and a re-boot, they return to a standard state.

My properties were correct, etc. The re-boot was necessary too as after closing with Ctrl and opening immediately they were still maximized. Re-boots after the other attempted fixes had no effect.

Instead of rebooting,I find it FASTER to flush the registry by using the "refresh" option on the drop down menu in the registry editor(run>regedit)
