Audio CDs won't play automatically after switching default players
My original default CD player was a progam that came installed with the computer (Hewlett Packard's CD Player.) I decided to change the default CD player to Windows CD Player, and now when I insert an audio CD nothing happens. After switching the default player back to Hewlett Packard's player, the problem now remains. I would like to have Windows CD Player as my default and play Audio CDs automatically upon insertion. I looked around in the other threads related to this problem and I've taken some of suggested steps, but still haven't found any solutions. I have done the following:
* Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types
I highlighted AudioCD, hit the "Edit" button, highlighted Play, then hit the "Set Default" button.
A couple things to note here... in the "Actions" section I have both "Play" and "Open" as actions, does it matter which one appears in bold type, or should there only be "Play" in that section of the window?. Also, the "Content Type (MIME)" and "Default Extention for Content Type" fields are both empty. Should I add something in there?
* Device Manager> CD-ROM> Properties> Settings> Auto insert notification is checked along with the proper drive letter assignment.
* In my registry, the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
already has the value for the NoDriveTypeAutoRun key of 0000 95 00 00 00
* Finally, I checked my TweakUI paranoia settings, and sure enough the "Play audio CDs automatically" box was unchecked. I checked the box, and now when I insert an audio cd, a window containing the contents of the CD pops up without playing anything.
I have Windows98se. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
