How do I get rid of My Albums, My DVDs, My Pictures, etc?

I am using XP, with Media Center, on a Dell computer.

When I open My Documents, there are folders for My Albums, My DVDs, My Pictures, My Scans, My Videos. I do not want these folders cluttering My Documents. I tried to hide them all in a single folder and now I have two sets of each. I delete them and they come right back. How can I get rid of these dern folders, or at least put them somewhere I will not see them each time I open My Documents?

Since those are system folders there usually not deletable like other folders you create. As you've found out you can't just delete them because XP will just recreate them. There might possibly be other third party software you can use to tweak to hide them. Someone in the XP forum will probably know this.

I just changed the folder attributes on My Albums to hidden, as a test; it seems to work. If you have your settings in Folder Options set so as not to see hidden folders/files, that may be all you need to do.

aob, I Believe that Tweak UI has that option under My Computer>Special Folders but I've never tried using it.

Since the Tweak UI suggestion seems a little complicated, I am going to wait until the weekend before starting on that, when I have more time.

I think what lgbpop meant was right-click on the folder you want to get rid of, go to "Properties", then click on the "General" tab. Go to the bottom where it says "Attributes" and click on the option "Hidden". This will "hide that particular folder from view as long as your folder options are set to not see hidden files. Do this for each folder you want to get rid of. It doesn't delete them, but it does hide them from view.

By golly, it worked. Now, My Documents looks neater.

Oops. Worked for folders, except for My DVDs. The Hidden check-box is grey and cannot be selected.

At least I hid the others.

My DVDs may not be an XP system folder, but a third-party application folder. (None of our XP computers has it.) If you're not using it and it's empty, try deleting it.

MyDVDs is create by the Sonic (Roxio) application MyDVD.

I know because I just looked at all the user account on my pc and it was only in two of them.

Started up an account that did not have it, started up MyDVD and sure enough the folder appeared.

And yes you can delete it.

Alternativly you can open regedit and go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
There you can change the location of My Albums, My DVDs, My Pictures etc. to My Documents.
Once you changed the location you can delete the folders.
Consequence is that nothing will be sorted.
