Now that the all the hoopla of Vista being available in retail stores has died down, the question I have is:
Has anyone out there @ VDr actually purchased a new machine with Vista installed and which manufactures are actually shipping units with Vista CD?
It would be nice to know because I think that would be a big selling feature, at least for me. I always dread the day when you need help and the first thing someone says, "Put the CD in the drive and then......".

wojo629--You might get a wider response if you asked the repair department at the PC store whether a full Vista CD is included (rather than a "Recovery CD"). I suspect very few PC makers do anymore and the store people may not know. So if they say yes, get a written guarantee from the store, and if they say no, call the PC maker to find out how much they will charge for a full CD.

I think what I'll do is wait a little, at least until SP1 comes out for Vista and than build my own machine so I know that I'll have the CD in my possession-and not have all the BS that everyone thinks you need!
wojo629--Whatever you do, I certainly agree you want that CD.
I'm looking with some apprehension what is going to happen when folks get PCs pre-loaded with Vista and no DVD. I've discovered that the new Vista bootloader is very easy to break, and very easy to repair with the DVD. Without one though, it's a whole different ballgame, and I don't know what we're going to be able to advise yet.
SuperSparks--Thanks for correcting me. Vista comes on one DVD or 5 CD's, though I am not sure the latter is a retail product.

Just setting up a friends Advent laptop from high street retailer in the £500 range, it has vista home primium, opened the box, no disc, no backup partition set up.
works 8.5 was in with it, no instruction for the laptop, and a small leaflet with the meaning of the vista icons, thats your lot.
she is a beginner and i hope for her sake she doesent mess it up.
but it ok MS will provide tech support for vista at 50p a minute.
Why oh why do they sell this stuff of the shop floor ??????????????
