IE browser 6.0.2900 hanging

I am running windows xp and my browser started hanging about two weeks ago. I am on cable/modem RoadRunner, when I go to a web page it may take a minute to load and when I click on something it hangs for a couple of minutes. I ran defrag, virus scan and spybot search and destroy.
Any other ideas?

I hang up to when the internet is busy.
VDR can be real rough to get into once in a while when the servers get slammed for request. Or when the Qwest network gets overloaded. :(
