Internet explorer will not browse to any websites. I've checked for malware and have found none. Would a winsock fix possibly fix it? The catch is that firefox works without a problem so it's not a DNS issue or hosts file issue. Also not even sure if winsocks would come into this since it's just IE that has the problem. Tried installing IE7 and it won't browse either. Used hijack this and looked everything up, there isn't much but what is there shouldn't cause this to happen.
btcomm, It wouldn't hurt to try WinSock XP Fix which is Free at the link below. I'm assuming you're using Windows XP.

btcomm--Are you saying everything was OK until you installed IE7? Or did the problem exist with IE6?
You can uninstall IE7 from Add/Remove and revert to IE6.
If that does not help, but the problem started recently, perhaps a System Restore? Any error messages?
Already uninstalled IE7 and nope, no error messages. The only thing that happens is as soon as you try to go to a website it says page cannot be displayed.
Doing a reinstall of SP2 since that is supposed to reinstall IE and going to see if that fixes it.

btcomm--Are you back to IE6 now? If you do not mind reinstalling SP2, then fine, go ahead. (It will be interesting to see if SP2 will reinstall over itself.)
However, it might be easier to first try a System Restore to a date before the problem started or Start|Run|type sfc /scannow|OK. Have your WinXP CD ready if you are asked for it.
I think I have seen several posts where reverting to IE6 after installing IE7 has caused problems.
Hi, haven't been here for awhile, Jim's right about IE 7 back to IE6, came up with a batch file to help here (also fixes most IE 6 problems) . Copy and paste ALL of the below into notepad then from notepad menu select "file" then "save as" in the save as window save this as IEFix.bat and save to desktop. Double click on the file to run (be patient it takes time if it hangs then close out and do it again). Reboot for the changes to take effect.
