New car?
As Christmas approaches....I am starting to see those commercials where people get a new car as a gift. Saw two just today....
Quick question...
Has anyone ever gotten a brand new car as a christams gift? Ever given one? Know anybody who got one?
Gotta tell ya.....in my entire life, I have never seen anyone get a gift of a new car. I do recall one or two people I knew that got used clunkers when they graduated high school....but that's about it. I don't know the average price of a new car, but it has to be around 20 to 30 thousand. That's a pretty severe gift.

Not me.
I don't even know someone who has won a car.
When my wife was in school still one of her class mates won two sports cars a black one and a white one.
It was some sort of Black & White promotional thing.
Sinec she was only 15, she sold them both.

20 to $50K for a new car for a present is serious.
Heard folks scream, getting new tabs, about the taxes on such presents. :D
Seems they did now want to pay them outrageous rates.
-
Me neither....like those people that win contests like Publisher's Clearing House...or the lottery...or "..the next bottle cap that you look under might win you a free trip to Hawaii.."
I guess that I just live on the wrong side of the tracks....

I do know a man that won not just one, but two cars. His license plate said something like, "I Won 2"
Can't say I know anyone that has received a new car as a Christmas present or as a graduation gift. I did get the old clunker for an early graduation gift, but only because I stayed on the honor roll, and all of my money from part time job(s) kept the horses fed, vetted, shod. But yeah, I know I was very lucky to have the car (and the horses!), and did appreciate it much. What the car taught me:
1. Baling twine will hold your muffler up from dragging the asphalt, but only 'til it burns from the heat of the pipe....(then you just find more baling twine and repeat process)
2. The drug dogs at school will "alert" on your car if you carry hay and dogs in your car...
3. Any field that you drive in will contain nails, and you will get flat tires. I'm really good at changing tires now.
4. When your clutch dies on you, and the only gear you can shift into is reverse, you really can drive in reverse to get home.
But Maxx, if you'd really like to give me a new car for Christmas, I won't complain a bit! I will say I'd prefer a truck though ;) You may certainly PM me for the specifics :D

There seems to be people who win things all the time. I'm not one of them. :(
As for giving a car; I gave my grandson a Tonka truck when he was little. :)
-
My wife's Aunt and Uncle who had pretty much always struggled even with government assitance, won A$500,000+
Her best friends parents won the lottery twice
We gave her father a model BMW last christmas along with dent's and scratches to match those he had on his real one. LOL
But still no one I know or know of that got a brand new real car for a gift - birthday or christmas.

So you guys see my point then.....these ads are silly. :)
Just who are these car commercials aimed at? The average working stiff watching TV is not the type to buy a car as a gift...nor is he/she likely to receive one. Based on the posts here....it seems more likely I will win a car before I get one as a gift....
And I seriously doubt I will ever give one........sorry GG......... :p

I have never know anyone to give or receive a car as a gift for Christmas. I have never even heard of anyone by default (through the grapevine) getting one.
I think its a crock :D ............. unless you are named Trump or Gates.
-
Well, if you change your mind Maxx, just PM me for the details on what I'd like :D

Maybe we need to go and ask the question on the forums at www.richbastards.com or www.toffeenose.co.uk or www.spoiltrichkids.com ?
Didn't one of Ozzie Ozbournes kids get a SUV in that show ?
Maybe one of the Hilton sisters got one ? (A car that is ;) ).
-
LOL I just made those websites up and the first two actually exist.

Had to bring this one back......
Just saw a TV commercial for the Lincoln Navigator....and how it should be on your Christmas 'wishlist'....
In case you folks don't know....the average price for a stripped down, bare bones version of this vehicle is about $52,000. That's before financing and any other goodies that you want. The 2007 editions can approach $100,000 when you start adding in extra things. BTW...this is the model they show in the ad too...
Ummm.....I could sell my house, with all the contents, and likely not come up with $100,000.

this is for the lifestyle of which I will never know :D

I've never been one for class warfare....I think if you are successful that is great, you deserve it......
However....if any member here is in a financial position to give away a Lincoln Navigator, I sure hope to see you in the "Please Help Us Save Ana" thread....giving the gift of life. ;)
