Updates for Win2K
I've not used Win2K in a long time, and have a machine here that I've not used in a long time. I may put Win2K on it "just for kicks." Two questions -- are the service packs still available for this OS? What is the latest SP for it? Thanks!

SP4 I'm sure it's availabel somewhere if not on M$

SP4 is available on Microsoft's site, as is the Service Rollup 1. Win2000 went into extended-support mode in the summer of 2005, and I believe it's supported through summer of 2010.
If Win2000 develops the legs that 98SE did and shows no sign of going away, M$ might extend that timeframe. I've noticed on eBay that the average selling price for NOS retail kits is pushing $175, and OEM unbranded get $125 or more--50% more than just 6 months ago, and right up there in XP's pricing structure. Bad news for M$ but good news for users, I guess.

I really appreciate the replies...
One other thought on this -- are the Service Packs such that one needs to D/L and install each of them in order , beginning with SP1, or would obtaining SP4 get me up to date all in one shot? Thanks!

To my knowledge any Windows version's successive SPs incorporate the preceding service packs; so yes, SP4 incorporates SP1 and up and is the only SP you need to install. The Service Rollup Pack is separate (as it was with NT), including a few miscellaneous updates and patches that were written after the "last" service pack so you need to install that as well. A P.S., if you will.

Excellent help here, and I appreciate it!
I was pretty sure that the SPs were indeed cumulative as you mentioned. However, I knew nothing at all about the Service Rollup. I'll proceed accordingly now that I'm sure of "what's what." :D Thanks again!

I was unaware of Service Rollups myself until I started marketing WinNT last month and found it in the M$ update downloads, so the knowledge came in handy. Glad to pass it along.

Having recently installed a fresh copy of 2000 and gone through the update procedure, I had to install SP1 first before hopping straight on to SP4 and the other minor updates that follow.
This was all done through the online update so maybe an offline update would be different.
