CD-R Software
Ok guys & gals, I need opinions. I have 100's of cassettes that I want to burn. Easy CD Deluxe Ver 5, even with rebate is $79 big ones but includes Spin Doctor and nero is $69.00 but I can't find any reference to the ability to convert analog to wav in the notes for it.
My question, does anyone know whether spin doctor or a similar program can be downloaded as freeware (legally of course) or do you have a favorite of your own?
Now I'll go burn a pizza and await your help.

Spin Doctor comes only with Easy CD Creator Deluxe versions. You cannot download it legally.
As long as you have software to do the burning, all you relly need is any decent sound recording/editing program. That's the functionality provided by Spin Doctor, it's just integrated with the Easy CD burning software.
Ideally you would want a package that enables you to "clean up" the wav files before burning them (remove hum, hiss, etc.), but that's not critical. Any sound software will be able to record sources from your soundcard line-in, which is what you want/need. What you would do is simply record the sounds (I suggest individually for simplicity in editing) as 16-bit, stereo, 44.1khz, Windows PCM "wav" files (because that is the format required for CD audio). Again, this is something all packages will over. Once you have the wav files (and clean up if you like) you would simply select them in Easy CD's audio cd creation screen and let it burn them on the cd.
There are many decent packages available for sound editing/recording. If you don't want to buy something then take a look at one of the shareware download sites.

Thanks much guys and I just downloaded Ver 4.23 demo of Goldwave and will give it a try. It certainly looks like a winner for what I need and I should have said in my post originally that shareware is fine too.
$79 was just too steep since my Easy CD Creator 4.03b works fine so I would have been paying all that money for just spin doctor. $40 is much more reasonable if I like it.
Thanks again.

The Feurio demo is completely unrestricted in time and function. It is a full featured audio recording program: http://www.feurio.net/English/index.shtml
I don’t know how it compares to Goldweave but I like Feurio.

Note to Prophet, I got set up and tried Goldwave last night. Duty called so I didn't get to finish the editing & burn to CD but the playback thru my soundcard and conversion to WAV was really cool and easy.
My only problem was telling Goldwave where I was importing from. There are no clear instructions on setting "line in" but once I figured which window the option was in from that point it was a cinch.
I'll start editing the hiss from the old Dolby encoded tape and see how that goes but I think you're right this just may be a winner. Thanks.
I'm d/l ing Feurio! as I type and will try that too. Thanks, slipe.

Hi again. Just finished using my downloaded shareware, Goldwave. Took a little time on this first one but I'm sold. I took a 25 year old cassette tape in relativly good condition with some great old blues. The songs, when I recorded them, were somewhat flat because they were from original 50's and 60's masters.
This little gem of a program allowed me to clean all hiss from between tracks with options for attack time and anticipated delay. It has an equalizer so I modulated the base and boosted the upper mid range. Then I cleaned music sections with the high bandpass. Finally I burned it with EZ CD 4.03b.
WOW! this is a keeper.
Edited to serve 2 threads. Thanks for the recommendation Prophet.

Hi,
If you just want to record the tapes without modification I found that MusicMatch has a recorder function that worked great for me. It is slow, but you can also burn the CD from Music Match. I don't know about the quality but my hearing isn't that great so it suits me.
