Ie 7

I just installed IE 7 and I've noticed at the top of the screen the lettering is in Chinese/Japanese. How do I correct this so it reads in English or is this one of the happy glitches in Microsoft's great program? :)

Can you post a screenshot? I'm not sure what we're dealing with.

I don't know how to post a screen shot, but when you minimize your screen to the "blue" toolbar at the bottom, instead of it reading the name of the page in English, it reads it Chinese. Same as the blue line at the top of the page that has the minimize, maximize, and exit features in the top left corner.

Change the Browser Title (XP Pro)

This tweak Customize the Title of the Internet Explorer.

1. Click Start > Run > Type gpedit.msc
2. Click User Configuration > Windows Setting > Internet Explorer
Maintenance > Browser User Interface
3. Double click on Browser Title
4. Click on Customize Title Bars
5. type in whatever you want
6. Click OK

Now you changed the title of your browser and you sure see what you wrote
when you open a New Widow.


Completely change Internet explorer title

1. start ->run-> gpedit.msc

2. choose User Configuration, Windows Settings, Internet Explorer
Maintainance, Browser User Interface, and doubleclick Browser Title.

3. Activate Customize Title Bars, and type something in there. Doesn't
matter what. Let's type: QWERTY. Click Okay.

4. Fire up Reg editor. (start, run, regedit)

5. goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.

6. Look for the key: Window Title. There you'll find the value: Microsoft
Internet Explorer provided bt QWERTY.

7. Change this key to anythig you like and exit regedit.

8. Fire up IE and look at the titlebar!

I typed in gpedit.msc and Windows cannot find this file. What else can I do?

Ooops. I see your using XP Home..
Besides leaving it as is, you could uninstall/reinstall....Except double check which version you download.

anarchyzone1--Just went to the official IE7 download site and was surprised to see they do not seem to offer downloads in any other language than English.

I thought that might be the problem. Is that the download site you used?

That is the site I downloaded IE7 from.

anarchyzone1--Uninstall IE7 (from Control Panel). That should restore IE6. Then try to reinstall IE7.

How to post a screen shot:
First make the screen shot when your screen shows the problem. Simultaneously hold down Alt+PrtScn. Open a graphics editor (MSPaint will do). Click on the empty space. Simultaneously click Control+V. That should put the screen shot into Paint. Now save the image, preferably as a .jpg, but a .bmp (much bigger) will do. Be sure to remember where you saved the image.
Click on "Post Reply" at the end of the list of posts in this thread. After the "Reply to Thread" area you will see "Additional Options". One is Manage Attachments. Click on that and follow directions. Do not forget to Upload. When you post, your screen shot will appear as a thumbnail at the bottom of your post.

I tried uninstaling and re-installing and to no avail it still has the Chinese writing. Here is a shot below.

anarchyzone1--Weird. For what it is worth, it is Chinese. Perhaps a beta tester for IE7 can tell you where to report this.
I do not think we know where you are located. Any reason to think MS is choosing this version for you?

Ever see a version of IE that had something like "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by XYZ company" in the title bar? This could be related to that registry key, wherever it is.

Might try this:

Another way to do it without entering the Registry yourself is

I tried the above mentioned options and to no avail, it's still in Chinese. Anyone have any other suggestions or should I try to contact Microsoft?(I wouldn't know where to begin with them :) )
