I'm using XP pro, trying to schedule a daily backup using the built-in Backup utility. I am able to schedule a daily task, say to start at 6 PM, but it fails to run. The failure message is "The scheduled task did not run because no user account password was entered." The account I am using does not have a password, so I don't know why it asks for one. I am leaving the password form blank when scheduling the task.
OK, just tested on my XP Pro under a domain account, I had to enter a pass while setting up the task and works fine.The thing is, are u sure your account doesn't have a password?I mean, you may not select a user when logging in but the OS is set up to login always as a certain user.
The other case is that u do select a user while logging in but u don't are not prompted to enter a password(that's another available option).
I guess you are not using the Administrator account.
Seems like I remember reading that a password MUST be entered for the task scheduler to run. If the account doesn't have one, it probably won't run for that user...
In that case, the only available option is to set a password for the user.

Yes, it is a requirement to use a password with Task Scheduler.
I logged in with the administrator account (which has a password) and that seemed to fix it.
I know i know this is old... But Windows requires a password so that malicious code can't be put in the scheduler. No password no run...
