inexpensive dvd burner?
hello all,
i have put off purchasing a dvd burner till now...with some of the deals online i don't think they will be getting less expensive...does anyone have any suggestions as to a good low budget dvd burner...what to look for and what to stay away from? i understand there are still some compatability issues and such. thanks john

NEC/Liteon, and pretty standard stuff now is dual layer and dual format, so DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW, aswell as dual layer discs(9gb). The norm is 16X for DVD 5's (-R's and +R's) and 8X for the RW equivelants. Then 8X for +R DL, and 4X/6X for -R DL discs, and then writing CD's @ 48X.
You can't argue with $30, and to be able to backup your 40gb drive with just over 4 DL discs isn't too much work either.:)

Yes, I've always had a good run with LiteOn.

I, on the other hand, have not :(
I like my LG burners - I don't think I've had a single coaster from them, and they can do all formats, including DVD-RAM.

Agree with Supersparks, I feel that LiteOn are not as good as they used to be. I use LG all the time now they are pretty reliable
