You'd have to remove the usb device or sata drive to make it go away....
You can "hide it always" via taskbar properties.
Hello Steve, just hiding it leaves the arrow, still there, just covered.

Cannot find this Sata drive, and not sure which USB device to remove, and the Consequences if i did??
What does the Sata drive do? Also, the USB is it used for anything else.
Minds telling me to leave well alone, lol.
Thanks for your reply, GEP
gep--I would suggest leaving it, but "Always Hide" it as suggested by Steve R Jones. Don't you have the arrow anyway to cover other "Always Hide" program icons?
It really is a quite necessary utility if you want to disconnect peripherals (like, perhaps most commonly, a USB flash drive) while your PC is on.
Hello WelshJim, i only have 5 in there inc safely remove hardware, no arrow.
Cut it down to the bare minimum.
Will leave alone, just trying to downsize.
Thanks, Gep
Gep, That little arrow button is called the Chevron.
Notification Area - Hidden Chevron Missing
For some users setting the very first icon to Always Hide, restores the arrow. This behavior seems to come into effect when one uses an icon on the System Tray. Also be certain that the "behavior" of each of each icon is what you want it to be. Right-click each, to make changes.
