Installing new DVD Writer with CDRW onboard

Howdooo,

I have a BTC COMBODrive CD-RW in the puter,and wanted to install a second Phillips DVD/CD Writer in the system..would this be right to assume that I should make the new DVD writer the MASTER and the (old) CD-RW the SLAVE on the jumpers?

Or does this Master / Slave talk only refer to the hard drives when you have more than one?

Does the audio cable then go into the NEW DVD drive and not the Slave CD -RW,or does this not matter either?

Does it matter where along the cable plug location on the string does the DVD/CD plug into? Since it's #1 master,the first one,then the Slave the second down the chain OR does this not matter?

Any other advice would be more than appreciated in hooking this up.

Set the new drive to Master, and the old drive to slave. Yes, this is for both hard drives and optical drives.
Connect the Master/DVD/CD writer to the first connector on the cable, then connect the old drive to the second connect.
The gray cable can be on either drive. Or you can do away with it altogether if you change one little thing in the drives. Right click my computer chose properties, and then the hardware tab. Chose device manager, then click on the plus sign beside the entry for DVD/CD drives. Right click each drive and chose Properties, then click the Properties tab in that window, and at the bottom put a check mark beside the words "Enable Digital Audio". And click apply then ok out.

The position on the ribbon only matters if you use Cable Select rather than Master/Slave. If you do use Master/Slave it doesn't matter in the slightest which connector you use for which. If you only have one drive connected to a ribbon though, always use the end connector - using the middle connector with nothing connected to the end can cause problems.
