I have a Windows 95 computer.
I was recently using the Network icon in Control Panel.
I pretended to be adding a network adapter or NIC with the "ADD" button.
I selected the Microsoft company from the Manufacturers list for adapters.
I was surprised to see a choice for "Dial-UP adapter" there in the box at the right side of the window.
Why is "Dial-Up Adapter" a choice for a network adapter?
Because "it is" a network adapter.
Any adapter capable of connecting IP to IP (computer to computer) is networking.

Exactly. Even though it is a dialup connection, it still connects you to a network. Therefore it is a network adapter.
When would you need to Add the Microsoft network adapter called "Dial-Up Adapter" using the network icon in Control Panel?
Note: I already have a dial-up modem installed properly.
Win 95 is not as plug and play friendly withmuch hardware as newer operating systems so pointing it in the direction of a driver which is already included within the windows driver base could be one reason for using it.

All the other Manufacturer's devices are network adapters.
Yes, what normally happens is when you install the drivers, windows recognises it for what it is, and makes the entries needed and even asks for the windows cd so it can get whatever it needs. Be it a modem, NIC or IR.Quote:

......Modem drivers can be loaded with the modem tool in Control Panel or with Device Manager.
I can understand using the network tool to load protocols or clients or services, but not to load a Dial-Up adapter.
Anyone know?
