Why it's good to be "The Squeaky Wheel"

Last month my cable internet was out for in excess of 10 days. Now I need my connection to do my job, obviously, so I was forced to use my laptop wireless connection, also from the same ISP as the cable account. Today I discovered a more than $20 charge to my account for the excess usage. So in addition to being greatly inconvenienced and forced to use a connection 1/10th my normal speed, they wanted me to pay for the privilege. I called them up and complained, and it's been removed. Always complain when you're getting railroaded.

It never hurts to make a phone call and at least ask about it. So many people won't.

I almost didn't, myself. But the more I thought about it the more annoyed I became. It was a HUGE inconvenience and really threw a monkey wrench into my life, and now they want me to pay extra on top of it? Nuh uh. Not in this lifetime.

I stopped being nice to ISPs when I realized that all of a sudden all the employees were younger than I am. Now I talk to them like an annoyed father and if I'm not asking for the ridiculous I usually get what I want. :D Almost forgot to add, I'm getting a nice credit for all my down-time this past month.

My uncle was having problems with his (And mine) ISP, and he has been with them for the past 6 months, with £19.99 a month for 1mb, and there were a lot of problems with connection and bad modems, and he rang to cancel it to push them into a corner, and they said if he stayed with them they would let him have the last 6 months direct debit payments credited back, so he's a happy bunny. :)

I twice have had issue with my bank when they charged my $30 overdrawn fee.

First time was when I was closer to my limit on my visa credit card than I thought and I made a large payment.

Because it was to the government roads department (RTA), they did not need to get an authorisation and the payment went through taking me over my limit.

I didn't realise until the next day and immediatley trnasferred some money to my visa but had already been penalised $30.

I rang the bank and said to the woman that if it had been pretty much any other purchase it would have been rejected by tha authorisation process and because they chose not to get the RTA get authorisations I shouldn't have to pay as it wasn't my fault.

She tried to argue but I stood strong and eventually she reversed the charge.

The second time I had a saving account that I had left about $6 in and transferred some money late in the evening via the net.

The same evening, the bank hit me with some account charges that was like $6.59

Because of the processing order that night the bank charges went through first so my account went into arrears by 59c, promptly got hit a $30 overdrawn fee and then was back in the black by the amount I had transferre (less 59c).

Again I rang the bank and said that it was absoluetely ridiculous as it was their charges that took my account into the red in the first place and surely it made sense to process deposits and transfers first and bank charges last.

I said that it was obviously a deliberate ploy to rip people off by processing bank charges first in the hope of making osme people go into the red.

Eventually I asked to speak to a supervisor and they ended up reversing the charge.

Whenever I get downtime with Comcast....I call immediately and always get credit beyond my downtown. But you have to mention it...or they will just give you a generic apology for the downtime (I think they read it off a card).

I actually had a support guy ask me how much credit I wanted for three days down. I said I wanted a week and he said fine.

Check your bills that you actually get it though.....
