Network setup wizard run, flatmates still not visible.

Hi everyone, I'm just joining because I need help, so don't take offense.

Anyway, my flatmates and I all connect to the internet by plugging network cords into a communal modem. The other three also have run the network setup wizard on their computers, and they're able to share files in addition to connect to the internet. For some reason, though, I can't do this. I run the wizard and their computers don't show up. However, they can see me but when they try to access my computer they're told by windows that they've been locked out by the administrator, and to contact him.

Are we missing anything blindingly obvious? Feel free to email me at [email protected], or just reply to this thread if I've left anything crucial out. I'd really appreciate any help you can offer.

Have you checked you are actually sharing at least one folder and that you not blocking connection with your firewall [try temporarily disabling it] ?

Hi, yes I did, the firewall is turned right off (cos I live live on the edge like that), and still nothing. It's odd because I can't even see their computers in "my network places," but they can see me. When they click on me, though, it says "access denied."

Are you running XP Home or XP Pro? If you have a third party firewall such as Norton, Sygate, or ZoneAlarm installed make sure it is properly configured for file and printer sharing.

It might help you can provide the ipconfig/all results for each computer. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start - Run - "cmd" (without quotes) in the Open box and press ENTER.
2. Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" (without quotes) into the command window.
3. Open c:\ipconfig.txt in notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
