My new KVT600X-L MB uses PC 3200 DDR 400MHz memory and will hold up to 2.0 GB of memory. I installed a Ultra 512 MB PC3200 DDR 400 MHz Memory chip and system worked fine. I decided to add more memory so I purchased a Kingston KVR/400/512R chip and that's when I found that there is some kind of compatibility problem? When it booted up it flickered and rebooted several times. It posted some unrelated messages about display problems etc. I would think the two sticks would be compatible :confused:
Well yes, you would think so, but the unfortunate realitry is that they often aren't. It's one reason why I like to buy all my RAM at Crucial, using the same manufacturer all the time eliminates those sorts of problems. Try going into the BIOS Setup and choose "Load failsafe defaults" and see if that helps.

I think you can make those two sticks work if you try what Kingston told me to do when I had a problem on a customer's computer. The solution was/is, to put the Kingston module in the first slot and the original in the second slot. It worked. So, bojovan, you might try that and see if it fixes the problem.

I would say you may have a bad dimm socket on the board.
Try removing one ram module and swap between sockets.
If the error comes up you've found the problem...
Single chip works in either socket with no problems...
After re-checking both dimm sockets I believe I found the problem. I discovered that one of the sockets was giving a low reading, 256 on one side and 512 on the other. The board is just over a month old, who would have thought.... Thanks all for the help. DeDoorknob's post got me looking in the right direction ;)Quote:

I'm thinking you have a problem in your bios for the motherboard.
The bios during post checks the ram.
Sounds like you got a bum motherboard. Time to change that.
