Sky By Broadband(UK)
just a stab in the dark but does anyone here have this 'Sky By Broadband';
http://www.sky.com/skybybroadband/home
and if so how is it working and is it any good?
i have just signed up to it myself but due to some WM10 Digital rights management problems can't currently get it. i have no doubt a post regarding this matter will be coming to a forum near you soon ;) .
-
Have you fixed this problem John? I have signed up but i got the message that i can use the service when the cardholder downloads the sky by broadband setup file....now i can't do a lot.

well yes and no. as you may remember i have had to do a clean install of windows. so while i never managed to get the DRM problem solved i don't think i have to do any more. i installed it on my new windows and as far as i know there is no DRM problems this time :) . so i was very happy only to then get a message telling me that my computer wasn't registered :( . as you can only use it on one PC the sky server must somehow not notice my new installation as the same comp. so i need to ring them and get it fixed, but i hate ringing people like sky. I got it by using my bro’s sky account as he didn’t need it. So rather than ringing I might just use my mum’s account. And they have the full package.

I got it sorted, and got the same DRM error (Error 15) i just followed the link provided, downloaded the fix, applied some other update, and bing bang boom i'm in, just got a film. :)

oh dangit! *jealously*
well that was kind of the same problem with me. the problem was the site it sent me to would not update my comp, it kept telling me that it could not connect to a proxy? what that’s about i don't know, but my new install seemed to have fixed it and it updated straight away. so is it that good? just dl a movie easy. and how long can you keep the movie for?
now time to find my parents so i can use theirs!
EDIT; am i the unluckiest person in the world? this thing just refuses to work for me! i finally think every thing is solved and when i go to sign up look what i get;
"THANK YOU FOR VISITING CUSTOMER ZONE.
AS WE ARE CARRYING OUT ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ACCESS THIS AREA OF THE SITE.
WE APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVENINCE."
i got to the very last stage of signing up and just as i clicked the 'confirm' button and that! :mad:
EDIT 2;
"Sky by broadband is coming soon...
Registration for Sky by broadband is unavailable at present as we prepare for our official launch in January. If you would like us to e-mail you as soon as registration is available, simply enter your details. "
if this isn't a mistake and gone my the morning I’m going to go find the nearest bridge!

I'm guessing the movies are changed monthly, this months are pretty good, you can bookmark them in a library, and download them, they're all around 700mb upto about 1.1gb, and there are different genres to choose from with the usual Comedy/Action etc, and you can keep the movie for a month, on the sports side you can get highlights for quite a few sports from recently like Golf/Footy/Rugby/Darts etc, the speed isn't too bad either.
I was getting that error, but check your sky.com account services, and see if it added skybybroadband, as mine did that, and then download the app, which is 50mb and takes a fair while because the server was pretty crappy last night.

WOW. this stuff's great. have been waiting for tech like this for ages now. so anyone in the UK with sky get this, it's free!
Just watched United beating Arsenal again :D
-
So it's working for you now then?
I watched the match in full at the weekend, it wasn't that nice to watch as a Liverpool supporter.......:rolleyes:

yeah it's working. i used my parents account as they have the movies as well. and i watched the game as well but i wanted to see it again :) . and this is such a great thing for me. i'm lazy so never get up to see soccer AM but i think it's great. so now i can dl all the best bits.
also i'm not sure on a slight legal aspect. the reason i wanted this in the first place is so that i can dl programs as uni where i don't have sky. so would that be legal or illegal?
-
I think it should be okay on the legalities, as it says only one computer can access one sky account for "Skyby...." so if it is only you using it, i don't think it would matter where you are....
I always miss Soccer AM too. :)

well that’s good then. only problem is it uses P2P and the uni firewall won't allow that. but next year i will have my own house so it should come in handy then.

just a little heads up here Liam;
http://www.opinionatedgeek.com/Blog/...0175/Blog.aspx
looks like sky maybe using a little malware.
-
I noticed Kservice and Khost, but i just figured Kservice kept the file downloading without having the main program open.....guess i was wrong, cheers for the heads up, i'll let my uncle know too as he uninstalled it and still has Kservice running.

well when it appeared first for me i knew it wasn't there before and assumed it was part of sky. but then i noticed that it would keep running without having the program opening which was a bit strange. I’m not to fussed as it doesn’t do anything damaging but i do like to be told when things are running in the background. also very strange that they make it so hard to get rid off!

Yup, when the time comes i'll check that registry key, and zap it, but for now i'm getting films by the bucket load, a little over 10gb so far. :) I wonder if it is legal to convert and DVD the WMV's for personal use....
