Latest version of Ad-Aware simply no longer functions on this machine. So long Ad-Aware & hello A-Squared.
(It's the best replacement freeware I could come up/w.)
Used in conjunction w/Spybot - Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster, CA EZ AVP & ZA, I feel 'relatively' secure.
What OS are you referring to?
The update before this last one, adaware SE1R91, would not take on my Win98SE, so I uninstalled and reinstalled adaware, and all went well with the update.
No problems at all with my XP Pro.
As you can see in my sig, I kind of agree with you about feeling secure....hth
Yes. This is a W's 98SE box & that did not work for me. Nor did Safe Mode, or any of the Command Line parameters, or uninstalling/reinstalling ZA & CA EZ AVP.Quote:

Beyond my ken as well, but a-squared is a good addition.
I use it to check my rigs everytime there is an update.... stopping avast in the background when I do so as to have no conflicts.
Seems to me I've recently read in other forums of the Win98SE problems with adaware of late. Have not found any answers yet though?....If I do, will post back.
jstnomega--Another antispyware tool (mentioned in poppy4's signature) is Windows Defender.

Surprised that uninstalling and reinstalling AdAware would not work, though.

Typical M$ arrogance. They'll 'support' a 233mhz processor but not their own OS's. (Who in their right mind would try to tun W's XP on a 233 mhz processor w/64MB system RAM?) Wonder how long W's XP will continue to function after the introduction (cram down) of Vista. If you have to call to activate XP, that tells me that all M$ has to do to deactivate Xp is flip a switch.

Welshjim, Thx for trying. Have been to the Castlecops Ad-Aware forum. Much good info there & I've tried it all re 'what to do when a scan hangs' but to no avail. Haven't logged in there to post, as I didn't see them having any answers, either in the stickies or by user posts. Only logged in here to report my experience cuz I said I would so in another post here re an Ad-Aware scan hang issue.Quote:
