Samsung Hard Drive Utilities

I don't recall previously seeing reference to utilities for Samsung drives, so having had need to find some to investigate an annoying 8k of bad sectors on an 80G Spinpoint, thought I might post a link:

It might not be clear straight away that there are four utilities, three are diagnostics, for different groups of drives - shdiag, SUTIL and HUTIL. You need to read through the lists of models to discover which utility to use for which drive.

HUTIL particularly seems to be comprehensive - diagnostics, zero-fill, set UDMA and acoustic modes, limit LBA size/recover native size...

Hope someone might find it useful sometime.

I need help with a issue I need to get A Dos utilitiy that's in ISO format to work. I put it in and restart the computer like you should do and I get a error saying it can't install software. I'm running Vista this utility I know functions on Windows XP. Spoke With Samsung they say it is the correct utility for my hard drive and Vista. I would be grateful for any help anyone can give me.

cybergal, an iso needs to be used to create a CD, usually bootable so the drive utility operates independent of the system's operating system.

Seems to me you should use your burning software to create a CD from the iso, boot the computer from that CD and either the drive utility will run, or can be run from a command line.

Alternatively, if you give us some more details of what you are needing to do with the utility and what the actual iso file is that you have from Samsung, we may be able to offer some further assistance.

Thank You for your reply. This is the file ES-Tool(For CD ROM Drive).zip It is a Iso file burned image with Roxio burn image to a disc. When it goes to boot in vista instead of the software window you are suppose to get I get an error message that says it can't install the software. Some kinda error CD001.

Looks to me like the generic CD driver doesn't work with your CD/DVD drive so DOS can't install the driver (device CD001).

However, I notice you say "boot in Vista" - you're not trying to run the disk from within Vista are you? (You have to use the CD to boot the system from startup)
