On my computer i am using Sata hdd and Win XP. I have tried to add the olderrn part of Pata drive, jhowever when i turn on the computer it won't start. Should i change something in BIOS or is the matter in something else.

When you unplug the PATA drive does it start ok?
Need to check the Boot Sequence in the BIOS and make sure that IDE-0 isn't set as the first boot drive.
I've seen some motherboards that group like devices together. For example, CD drives are together, floppies together, and then hard drives together. You may have to set the SATA as the main hard drive, and then check to make sure it is the first boot device.
The other option would be to get a PATA to SATA adapter. Assuming your have your SATA drive hooked up to port 0, the new drive would automatically be detected as the second drive.

Computer boots normally with SATA hdd. I don't know what role does SATA play because there are only three options in BIOS: CD ROM, HDD & floppy. I have set my PC on HDD.
