Power Options
Hi All---Hope you All had a Great Xmas.....
OS is XP Pro...1gig of memory..------Power Options is n has always been @ "Home/Office Desk"..Someone said to put it at "Minimal Power Management" or "Max Battery"...That don't make sence to Me!
This is what's in mine----Home/Office Desk------Presentation-----Always On-----Minimal Power Management---Max Battery & of course the Laptop one.....Where did these New uns come from..Were they put there by the installation of SP2!!!?
I use my PC for Surfing internet, Music, Videos & PhotoShop...I use Photoshop quite a lot....
Thanks and Take Care.....
PS-----How do I change parts of my Sig.,...Each time I do a change it reverts back to what it is now!!

All those power schemes are put there by default. I just delete the ones that I don't need, but it's not important they are only names for different configurations. Just set the power options to what you want (ie, when you want to turn off the monitor and hard drive, etc.), and save the scheme.

Hi SuperSparks---You say they put there by Default---Would that be by SP2 default...Because before SP2 I only had the usual uns in there....
Also are you saying that it Do Not matter which un is picked/used as they ALL do the same thing....If they All do the Same thing then why have them all in there!!----This has Never Bothered me Before as i've allways used "Home/Office Desk"....Only Bothering me now because some so so says to use one o the others that's in there....I like my System to be Sleek n Fast, (which it is) but if I can get it a Tad faster by useing one o the others then which un is Best...Just Curious!!....THANKS M8..

The only things that that setting changes are the ones in the dropdown boxes below it. As SS points out it's how soon the drive and monitor turn off with no use. Sleak and fast doesn't enter into it for those settings. Default was the way you had it... home & office desktop.
If you want to tweak for sleak and fast have a look here at Blackvipers XP services tweaks..

Turn off Indexing for all drives. And have a look at this page to see what processes/programs are starting with Windows that aren't necessary and you can disable..

Plus normal maintenance like defrag, a/v sweeps, temp file deletion etc.

All those power schemes are there with a clean install of WinXP without any Service Packs installed.
And those settings have nothing whatever to do with performance, they are purely there for power saving. If you go through the list in the dropdown box, you'll see the values change in "Turn off monitor" and "Turn of disks", etc. for each different scheme. Obviously for a laptop computer those settings can have a big impact on battery life, they're not so important for a dektop PC.
