Outlook New Mail Notification

Outlook version 2002 SP2 is set-up to play a sound when new mail arrives. Is there a utility or feature where I could set the program to play a sound if there are unread emails, say every 5 minutes.

This is for my PC at work. I would like other people to be aware that there are unread emails in my outlook when I am away from my desk (without having to forward mail).

The trouble is that the other people are ignoring the initial sound, but I reckon if it keeps sounding off every 5 minutes, they'll soon get tired of it and check my email!

Please explain why should other people check your email ?

Because it's a support email address. We set up an alias some while ago so that emails to this address would forward to all the support members, but this caused confusion, duplication of work, etc.

How about setting it to leave a copy of the email on the server.

Then every 5 minutes when it checks for mail it will download the 'new' message and play the new mail sound.

In outlook express it's under Tools > Accounts > Properties > Advanced and then at the bottom under Delivery Options.

Might be similarly placed in Outlook.

Either that or get a very long playing .WAV file eg loud music or a voice saying please someone read this email so that when the mail comes through the long playing email will play and someone is bound to hear it ?

Update I just tried option A and sent myself a message.

It d/l the first time but after that although it says there is a message on the server it won't d/l it any more.

I was going to suggest setting up a message rule that forwards it to you, but I tried that and got an error message when I sent one saying it was going to send it to one of my own accounts and stopped it.

Intersting I logged out of Win2K and booted WinMe and loaded up OE 6 and checked that account where I'm not deleting from the server and it d/l my messages.

So it must keep track of what DNS you're tyring to d/l to or something in order to know I was d/l from a different OS ?

Short of allowing your colleagues permission to access to your mailbox through their Outlook - which is easy to set up but a pest to negotiate every few minutes - I can't think of a way of doing it.

Diverting your e-mails to a common mailbox while you are away from your workplace sounds a bit tiresome too.

Set it up to play this sound Alert.wav which is zipped plus the original file it was created from.

Just Start > Run > SNDREC32 and opened the orignal file.

Then Edit > Insert File and browse to the original file and repeat until desired length is reached because he 35 second one is pretty darn annoying, but the 2 second one is probably not enough so.

If this is a recurring issue, consider looking into a support ticketing system to organise the work, instead of just having it all land in one person's mailbox. There are free ones like RT and OTRS, as well as commercial ones like SmarterTicket. If you have a web server handy you can install something like this on, it lets everyone keep track of the support jobs coming in.

Ha found the reason for this http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/probl...s.htm#pop3uidl so in order to d/l them more than once you need to corrupt your Pop3uidl.dbx file somehow.

Maybe edit it in notepad or something and delete a few characters and save it (backup first) or make it read only so it can't be written too ?
