Maintaining privacy when registering a domain

I might be preparing a domain and some webspace, however, I am wondering if there's an option NOT to have your address and contact information for all the world to see when someone dos a "WHOIS" on my domain.

I had an uneasy experience of someone showing up on my front doorstep IRL one day. And from that, I would like to maintain anonymity.

I have done WHOIS on sites before, and I'd sometimes see just this paragraph of information, with none of their contact info, I am assuming that person had the option of not displaying their contact info.

Currently I do have a website, if its possible to change take off my information that is to be displayed, I wouldn't mind the option of not having my contact info displayed.

Or I could just "Make up" contact information to.

But, you know, some people like their privacy.

Hi there,

I use godaddy as discussed in the article General Winters posted. The 'go private' option is the one for you. If you don't fancy moving your website, you can just transfer the domain only to godaddy then point the nameserver back to your existing host. godaddy are dirt cheap too!

Really! Don't think I've seen that one - my friend in MN sent me the one in the courtroom (I live in the UK).
